Aim

To support the client in organising and delivering a multi-stakeholder advisory board to gain insights into value-based healthcare in their product’s target indication. The project also aimed to facilitate collaboration from a range of stakeholders to increase alignment of priorities and, therefore, chances of reimbursement and market access. Our support aimed to maximise the input of each attendee by ensuring everyone had:

  • Materials that they understood
  • Clear roles based on their expertise
  • The confidence and space to participate

Approach

Accessible communication

We developed comprehensive materials, including attendee invitations, pre-reads, surveys and a presentation for the advisory board meeting. We tailored the language and content to ensure each stakeholder received relevant and accessible information and survey questions aligned with their expertise. This ensured everyone participating in the advisory board understood its purpose, goals and how they could contribute.

Aligning priorities to inform strategy

Discussions focused on the outcomes and trial endpoints that are most meaningful to patients, and how to ensure these are also relevant for payers. We conducted the advisory board through a mixture of full-group discussions, polls, and smaller breakout group discussions, to allow everyone the opportunity to contribute.

The discussions acknowledged that the different stakeholders had different priorities and perspectives. By aligning the priorities of patients and payers, the advisory board helped the client build strategies that would increase chances of reimbursement and market access, as well as maximising the relevance and impact of treatments on patient lives.

Adding value with follow-on activities

Following the advisory board, we developed an informative post-meeting report and summary slide deck. This included developing future activity ideas that would build on discussions in this meeting to add further value for patients and support product launch. The proposed activities would also allow continued collaboration with the stakeholders attending the advisory board, building long-term partnerships for the client and ensuring the patients, healthcare professionals and HTA/payer experts had future opportunities to provide their valuable input.

Impact

The advisory board strengthened the client’s partnerships with a range of stakeholders in the field and demonstrated how multiple different stakeholders can work together to ensure trial readouts are meaningful for everyone. The client used the information gathered during the advisory board to integrate diverse perspectives, including the patient perspective, into their drug development programmes, ultimately improving patient outcomes in the indication area.

“Really pleased with the project team and how they met our extremely tight timelines with high quality work! Would definitely work with them again and recommend my colleagues to do so”
