We recognise that job satisfaction goes far beyond a job description

Your working environment, colleagues and opportunities for personal and professional development are of paramount importance when it comes to choosing your employer. We are proud to have achieved a 3-star accreditation with Best Companies for a fifth consecutive year. These accreditations were awarded based on input from our team on a wide range of topics such as our work environment, the company’s values and management. In 2019, we were presented with the Queen’s Award for International Trade, recognising our successful international expansion. In an episode of the “The Pioneers” podcast our CEO, Sophie Costello, explores with the host our company culture and values.

We have also been invited to contribute at multiple Best Companies Live events, including two panel sessions that exemplified two of our key organisational strengths. In the first, Sophie Costello spoke about leading with purpose. At the second event, our Head of Talent Strategy, Saoirse Leonard, discussed wellbeing and personal growth.

Company Values

We are an independently owned and managed company, without external shareholders or other financial partners, meaning we are always guided by our values and we never compromise on these.

We Deliver Quality

  • We work hard to deliver projects of exceptional quality for our clients and this commitment has allowed us to grow organically because of repeat business
  • We care about our projects as much as our clients do and we enjoy delivering the best standards in our industry
  • We take pride in surpassing our client’s expectations for service and quality

We Recognise Talent

  • We are a growing company, keen to support individuals’ interests and ambitions, meaning there are numerous opportunities for personal and professional development, which individuals can pursue at a pace that suits them. If you join us in a scientific role, you will get increasing responsibility and client contact within your first few months
  • Our recruitment ethos focuses on providing entry-level opportunities across the company, offering people a chance to start and grow their careers with us. We remain committed to developing talent from within, with our Senior Management team all having progressed internally
  • We strive to be a diverse, inclusive organisation that attracts, employs, and retains the very best people. To this end, our recruitment efforts are talent-driven
  • We are committed to everyone’s personal development, and offer external training courses with full funding and paid study leave, including the Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma/Masters in Health Economics for Healthcare Professionals at the University of York; the postgraduate Clinical Trials and Public Health programmes at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; accreditation courses with the European Medical Writers Association and International Society of Medical Publications Professionals; and the CIPD Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management

We Encourage Fun

  • We have a very friendly and collaborative atmosphere, which is first encountered in the traditional welcome breakfast and celebratory drinks in your first week
  • Regular social events and team building activities have so far included cocktail workshops, chocolate tasting, cinema and theatre trips and sporting activities
  • We enjoy getting together for charity activities, such as running and cycling events, volunteering days and annual Christmas charity initiatives

We Champion Innovation

  • We encourage innovation, both within project work and by contributing to other areas of interest, such as recruitment, training, pro bono initiatives and IT management
  • Much of our development to date has been driven by the ideas and commitment of individual colleagues, including training weeks, charity events, and the establishment of the Singapore and London offices and several service offerings
  • We also understand our role in advancing healthcare, and we are encouraged to submit original research to relevant forums and conferences. Please click here to read about our recent contributions

We Endorse Integrity

  • We are committed to the provision of healthcare worldwide, and we aim to spend part of our time on pro bono projects
  • We run a Global Health Internship whereby a talented healthcare professional from a low- or middle-income country is invited to Cambridge for a period of 2 or 3 months to work on a real problem relevant to their community, with support from our team
  • We ensure that all our staff receive training on the relevant codes of conduct for operating within the pharmaceutical arena and ensure that our clients are strictly adhering to these
  • We are not a consultancy that is driven by sales targets and instead aim to build sustained relationships with our clients. This means we can ensure we are taking on the right balance of projects, based on opportunities they present and capacity within the team
  • We aim to contribute positively to equality and inclusion by organising outreach activities which aim to promote social mobility, equality and inclusion in our local communities

We Offer Support

  • We care about one another’s wellbeing and have a supportive management culture
  • Our offices are friendly and our approach to our work is highly collaborative
  • We aim to be politics-free and value openness

Recorded Career Fair

As a rapidly growing healthcare consultancy, we have a range of opportunities for you to join our teams. These include entry-level opportunities suited to recent graduates, post-graduates or those looking to take their first career move into this industry, as well as more senior opportunities suited to those with prior academic or industry experience.

In January 2024, we hosted an online career fair in which we explored who Costello Medical are, what is important to us as a company and our available job opportunities, as well as exploring the work of our various divisions and the types of projects they work on.

Our Training Commitment

All new employees at Costello Medical, regardless of division, location or job title, take part in our 3-week Induction Programme. This has been designed to offer a cultural and practical orientation to the company, provide information on our service offerings and expertise, and develop key technical skills. We ensure that all new starters have a solid foundation and the core knowledge needed to make a positive start at Costello Medical.

Our commitment to training continues throughout your career with bespoke training that is offered at key stages of your progression. We offer internal training online via a learning management system and deliver structured sessions at pivotal career milestones. Our in-house technical and soft skills training, led by members from all divisions, includes topics such as leadership, confidence, and business development which contribute to our supportive and collaborative culture. Our proactive approach to training ensures everyone can develop the skills they require to flourish throughout their career.

As part of our commitment to providing employees with opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge, we also offer and support the opportunity to attend external training and qualifications, from one-day courses to Post-graduate Masters’ programmes. In 2022, 16.5% of employees completed a formal external qualification.
