A Day in the Life of an Analyst (Singapore)

Sharon Lee is an Analyst in our Singapore office and joined the company in 2019.

What did you do before joining Costello Medical?

I graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS), before pursuing a PhD with the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Throughout my PhD, I developed 3D microfluidic models to study cancer immunotherapy and performed research at institutes around the world, including Singapore Immunology Network, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Politecnico di Torino.

When starting my career, I wanted to communicate and utilise all these learnings in practical and creative ways. Costello Medical provided a perfect avenue for this, and I joined the company as an Analyst in 2019.

What do you like best about your role as Analyst at Costello Medical?

One of my favourite parts of the role is the opportunity to communicate science to a broad audience, including stakeholders, healthcare professionals, patients and more. Since joining Costello Medical, I have been able to apply my scientific research training to various projects across the company’s service offerings, such as the development of scientific abstracts, posters and manuscripts, and presentation materials for medical educational purposes or scientific congresses. The cross-divisional aspect of my role has kept my workload highly varied, and I really enjoy working with different members of the global Costello Medical team, which contributes to a dynamic and vibrant working environment.

The nature of my role constantly keeps me on my toes – I always have the opportunity to learn about new disease areas and hone my technical skills in scientific writing, presenting and communication, as well as project and client management. The exposure I have gained here has broadened my perspective about science and healthcare beyond a purely academic setting.

How would you describe a typical day in the life of an Analyst at Costello Medical?

My focus varies so much each week that no workday has been “typical” – but I will give this a go!

My mornings, when my mind is freshest, are usually spent drafting written work or prioritising urgent matters. For example, I could be drafting a manuscript on back pain, working on a scientific abstract about rheumatoid arthritis, or assisting a client to urgently prepare a slide set for an upcoming meeting amongst the medical team in their company.

On quieter mornings, I am sometimes given the opportunity to attend workshops or training sessions to further develop the core skills I use every day. These are hosted internally and led by my senior colleagues. This is a brilliant opportunity to come together as a company and share our learnings which I find inspiring.

My afternoons are usually reserved for client meetings and internal catch ups. I really enjoy our internal catch ups as we get to bounce creative ideas off each other or boost efficiency within our project teams. Every other week, the entire company meet online to share exciting project news and company-wide updates.

The most important part of my typical workday is my colleagues! We often host group lunches, birthday celebrations or social events – I love being part of the Costello Medical team.

In summary, there’s rarely a “typical” day at Costello Medical and there’s always enough to keep me motivated!
