Front-End/Back-End Developer Internships (Multiple Opportunities)

Cambridge, UK

About Costello Medical

Costello Medical is a vibrant, friendly and rapidly growing agency providing medical communication and design services to a wide range of clients, including the world’s most successful pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Our Design Division works closely with scientific colleagues and external clients across a wide range of projects involving the creative presentation of data, helping to communicate the benefits of pharmaceutical products and medical devices to patient groups and medical professionals.

About the Role

We are currently seeking two interns to work across front and back-end development. You are not required to have experience in both to be successful.

During your internship, you will be based in our Design Division, working closely with our graphic/digital designers and project managers to create engaging and interactive digital content for our clients. Examples include the development and testing of functional applications and features for our expanding digital portfolio, creation of interactive content for conferences and events, and development of digital marketing material. The internship will allow you to gain hands-on experience, supporting the team through all stages of the project lifecycle.

We are keen to extend the range of digital deliverables we offer in-house, and you should therefore be proactive with a willingness to learn and contribute innovative ideas towards the development of our service offerings.

You will typically be working on two to three projects at any one time. Interns receive one-to-one training on the technical aspects of the role and learn about project management and effective communication with clients.

About You

Both roles require those with a problem-solving mindset and eagerness to work both independently and collaboratively to find solutions. You will ideally have strong analytical skills, alongside exceptional organisation and self-motivation. An enthusiasm for technology and high-quality development is a must.

  • A good understanding of CSS pre- and post-processors (e.g. Sass, Less, PostCSS) and familiarity with modern build tools (e.g. Webpack, Gulp)
  • Experience working with APIs

Although not essential for the role, knowledge of design software such as Sketch, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator would be an advantage.

Requirements for the Back-End Developer Internship

  • A degree (minimum 2.1) in a quantitative discipline (a background in computer science is preferred but not essential)
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Java, JS, PHP) would be preferred. However, applicants familiar with other languages will be also considered
