About the Role

This Design Internship will contribute to our Pro Bono Division, which delivers projects free-of-charge to charities and non-profit organisations within the healthcare sector, with the aim of making a real difference to causes that our staff care about. We offer our full range of services on a pro bono basis, working collaboratively across our divisions and office locations to secure the right expertise to fulfil project briefs. Examples of recent pro bono projects can be found here and include creating patient information and education materials, and helping organisations to build their evidence base.

Costello Medical has a long-standing partnership with Findacure, a UK charity based in Cambridge that focuses on bringing the rare diseases community together to support each other in achieving their goals. This joint internship offers an exciting opportunity for a talented designer to gain insight into life in both a commercial and non-profit environment, whilst also making a real difference to Findacure and their work.

You will be responsible for a wide range of design projects, including creating posters, developing marketing materials for scientific exhibitions and conferences, creating medical illustrations and interactive content, building social media templates and updating internal resources. This will allow you to gain experience in all stages of a project, from the initial concept development to full production, allowing for real autonomy and creativity.

The start date will be 5th July 2021 or 16th August 2021 and the internship will last for 6 months. You will be based in Costello Medical’s Global Headquarters, in Cambridge.

What Background Should You Have?

This exciting opportunity is ideal for a proactive candidate who will relish the opportunity to work on a range of projects. We are looking for a talented individual with a great understanding of aesthetics and meticulous attention to detail. A high level of organisation and flexibility is also essential as you will be working on multiple projects at any one time.

Essential requirements for the role are:

  • A degree level or higher qualification in a Design-based subject (minimum or expected 2.1 or equivalent), in addition to a highly innovative portfolio
  • Fluency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, as well as a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience in working with content management systems (such as WordPress) would be an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to use your initiative and work independently, in addition to working collaboratively within teams
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting deadlines

The role will involve close collaboration with all members of our established Design division, who will provide full training on the technical aspects of the role​, as well as the Findacure team. Although no previous experience in the scientific industry is required, an interest in applying graphic design to the healthcare and/or non-profit sector would be an advantage.

The stipend for interns is £1,500 per calendar month, and you will be entitled to statutory holiday.
