Within the Publications Division, Danielle is responsible for overseeing the delivery of medical writing projects, alongside leading the business development strategy for the division.

Since joining Costello Medical in April 2014, Danielle has managed a range of publication types, including manuscripts and congress publications. In addition, she has utilised her experience in medical communications to deliver successful global advisory boards and medical affairs projects, and, most recently, has been developing and expanding the company’s regulatory writing service offerings.

Danielle particularly enjoys providing excellent customer service to her clients and supporting the personal development of those she manages, and is looking forward to working with her colleagues to further develop the service offerings of the Publications Division.

Danielle graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2010 with an upper second class BA in Natural Sciences, specialising in cellular and developmental biology. After graduation, Danielle began her career in medical communications at a medical publishing company, where she worked on a wide variety of educational projects including working party guidelines, eLearning materials, digital advertising and educational events for healthcare professionals.

Since joining Costello Medical in 2012, Maria has enjoyed being involved in an array of publications and market access projects. Her current role focuses on management and strategic publications planning, enabling our clients to communicate their key strategic messages to their target audiences, primarily through manuscripts and conference submissions.

She also has over five years’ experience in the market access sector and has supported the development of numerous pharmaceutical products across a wide range of disease areas including oncology, rheumatology and cardiology. Within this sector, Maria has assisted with both primary and secondary research, including advisory boards, pricing and strategy projects, market access value dossiers, systematic reviews, and budget impact models. This technical expertise allows her to understand and clearly present the value of our clients’ products through accurate and effective scientific communications.

Maria holds an upper second class honours BA and MSci in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Economics from the University of York. She is also currently undertaking the European Medical Writers Association Professional Development Programme.

Since joining the company as a Medical Writer in October 2012, Debbie has enjoyed leading the delivery of a range of scientific publications, including peer-reviewed manuscripts, meeting reports, congress abstracts, posters and oral presentations. Working in a dynamic and stimulating environment, she has gained considerable experience in publications management and strategic publications planning. Debbie particularly relishes working closely with clients and KOLs to ensure the delivery of publications of the highest quality.

She is a member of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) and is currently participating in the EMWA Professional Development Programme (EPDP), recently gaining a specialised EPDP certificate in Drug Development. She is also an active member of the Costello Medical recruitment team.

Prior to joining Costello Medical, Debbie was awarded a DPhil in Neurobiology from the University of Sussex and enjoyed an extensive academic research career in the Physiology and Pharmacology Departments at the University of Cambridge. During this period she presented her research findings at several international conferences and authored numerous research papers and review articles for leading scientific journals.

Helen joined Costello Medical following a period of post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge investigating the cellular mechanisms of DNA replication and repair. Since coming to the company, Helen has applied her experience of scientific writing to the medical communications sector, and has overseen the development of a range of publications, including peer-reviewed manuscripts, congress abstracts and presentations, as well as having worked on medical affairs projects such as global advisory boards. She particularly enjoys applying her understanding of strategic publications planning in the pharmaceutical industry to develop and deliver communications plans to meet client objectives.

Helen holds a first class honours degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, specialising in Cell Biology, and a DPhil in Biochemistry from the University of Sussex. She has completed the European Medical Writers Association Foundation Certificate in Medical Writing and is currently participating in their Professional Development Programme to broaden and enhance her knowledge of the publication process, and enable her to further support Costello Medical’s clients.

Since joining Costello Medical Consulting in April 2013 as a Medical Writer, Julia has applied her experience of effective communication of scientific data, gained through working in both academia and the pharmaceutical industry, to a wide range of publications projects, including manuscripts, congress presentations and press releases. She has become familiar with a variety of disease areas and gained valuable experience of publications management, enabling her to provide strategic guidance and exceptional client support.

Julia gained her first degree in Biology from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany, followed by a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of London. Focusing on cancer biology and drug discovery, she then worked both in academia and for pharmaceutical companies, obtaining extensive experience in project management, data analysis and implementation of research strategies. She has published her research findings in high-profile journals and presented her work at numerous international conferences.

Julia is a member of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) and has recently obtained their Foundation Certificate in Medical Writing.

Ricardo Milho

Ricardo joined Costello Medical Consulting as a Medical Writer in September 2014. Since joining the company, Ricardo has worked on a variety of publications and medical affairs projects covering a wide range of disease areas, including rheumatology, haematology and Alzheimer’s disease. His role focuses on the development of manuscripts, congress abstracts and posters. In addition, Ricardo has developed multiple training materials and provided scientific support in CME-accredited medical education events. Ricardo particularly enjoys being part of such a collaborative and enthusiastic team at Costello Medical, and hopes to contribute with his work in medical communications to the advancement of clinical research and human health.

Ricardo graduated in Microbiology and Genetics from the University of Lisbon in 2007, followed by a PhD in Virology at the University of Cambridge. After graduating in 2012, Ricardo continued his research on the molecular mechanisms of viral host entry as a post-doctoral scientist. Throughout his research career, Ricardo was lead author on several peer-reviewed research papers and presented his findings at numerous international conferences.

To further improve his scientific knowledge and writing skills, Ricardo is currently studying towards the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) Professional Development Programme and the Clinical Trials Postgraduate Certificate at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Simon graduated with a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester in June 2012, where his research focused on understanding the molecular organisation of connective tissue. Following the completion of his PhD, he took the opportunity to extend his research at the Cleveland Clinic in the USA, where, alongside a number of clinical collaborators, he investigated the roles of impaired connective tissue organisation in disease. This research resulted in a number of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences. Following this, Simon returned to the UK to take up a 1 year teaching fellowship at Keele Medical School, teaching a number of the bioscience components within the undergraduate medical degree programme.

Simon decided to move away from academia in September 2015, taking the opportunity to join the team at Costello Medical Consulting as a Medical Writer. In this role, he is looking forward to using his skill set to support the propagation of clients’ scientific results, while simultaneously extending his skills in new areas of data analysis and communication.

Lisa joined Costello Medical in February 2016 after a period of post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge, where she investigated the role of circadian rhythms in cellular metabolism and pain disorders. Whilst at Cambridge, she also taught neurobiology and psychology to small groups of medical students at Lucy Cavendish College, for which she was awarded a teaching fellowship. Lisa has over 10 years of experience in preparing material for conferences and journal publications in a diverse range of scientific fields such as language cognition and spinal cord injury.

Lisa holds a BS in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In her role as a Senior Medical Writer, she enjoys combining her passion for medical communications with her broad background in the biological sciences to assist clients in developing and delivering high quality congress abstracts, peer-reviewed manuscripts and regulatory submissions.

Lucy joined Costello Medical in April 2016, having previously worked as a doctor in the NHS. Her experience of practising across a diverse range of clinical specialties has resulted in a breadth of understanding of multiple disease areas, as well as a valuable applied knowledge of the ways in which healthcare is delivered to patients.

Lucy holds an upper second class honours degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and graduated from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2012. Throughout her time studying and working in medicine, she enjoyed taking advantage of opportunities to create articles, undertake audits, and present on a range of topics. She is eager to produce high quality, impactful writing for clients across a variety of project types, including manuscripts, posters, abstracts and oral presentations. She brings to her role as Medical Writer the benefits of her professional background and dedicated interest in healthcare, and hopes to further advance her data analysis and science communication skills.

Hinal joined Costello Medical in August 2016, after completing her PhD in Medical Science and MRes in Stem Cell Biology at the University of Cambridge, where she developed computational methods to investigate the relationship between DNA replication and stem cell biology. Hinal also holds an MSci in Human Genetics from the University of Nottingham. Her research experience has resulted in a breadth of understanding of the biological sciences, data analysis and research communication.

Whilst at Cambridge, Hinal also communicated science from various disciplines to the public through writing magazine articles and hosting radio shows. In her role as Medical Writer, Hinal is keen to combine her research experience and communication skills to assist clients in producing high quality congress abstracts and posters, oral presentations, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Eleanor graduated in 2016 with a First Class Masters degree in Chemistry from Oxford University. As an undergraduate, she completed a summer internship working in a specialist oligonucleotide synthesis company. Through this experience, Eleanor developed a keen interest in biological sciences which led to a final year research project in Biochemistry. For her thesis, she investigated the effects of 2-oxoglutarate dependent oxygenases on the efficacy of antibiotics, and consequently discovered an interest in scientific writing.

Motivated by her desire to support future pharmaceutical innovation, Eleanor joined Costello Medical as a Medical Writer in September 2016. She is keen to produce high quality documents and presentations to communicate effectively the exciting new advancements of clients. Eleanor is also eager to expand her current knowledge of the healthcare system and is looking forward to working on a wide variety of projects.

Sam graduated from the University of Leeds in 2012 with a first class honours degree in Genetics. He then went on to complete his PhD at the Francis Crick Institute in London, focusing on the molecular interactions between HIV and host restriction factors. During this time, he presented primary research at two international conferences, and was intimately involved in the communication of research to non-scientific audiences. This included giving public demonstrations at the Science Museum and contributing to the local schools outreach programme.

Sam joined Costello Medical in September 2016 with a desire to combine his interest in science with his passion for written communication. He is already involved in projects that span multiple disease areas, and is eager to continue broadening his experience in the years to come.

Aimée graduated in 2012 from Durham University with a Masters degree in Physics. For her Masters project and as an astrophysics PhD student at the University of Cambridge, her research focused on image analysis and building a data reduction pipeline to detect small changes in starlight that hint at the presence of planets outside of our solar system. She presented her research at national and international conferences and also enjoyed coordinating the department’s graduate outreach programme for communicating with the public.

Aimée decided to leave academia and transition to a healthcare career as she wanted to make a wider contribution to society and use her scientific experience to improve people’s lives. She completed a Scientific Internship at Costello Medical at the end of 2016 and experienced regular cross-divisional work across many areas of the company. She is very excited to apply her analytical skills and statistical knowledge to a wide variety of projects, including publication development, biostatistics research and pro bono projects.

Bethan graduated from the University of Exeter in 2015 with an upper second class degree in Biological Sciences. During her studies, she developed an interest in the impact that science can have on healthcare, and particularly in the fields of microbiology and cell biology of disease. In her final year, Bethan especially enjoyed developing her skills in effectively communicating developments in science to different audiences, and designed an interactive exhibition as part of her final year project.

The field of medical communications and consulting offered Bethan the opportunity to combine her passion for healthcare with her enthusiasm for effectively communicating science. Following the completion of her degree, Bethan worked for a medical communications agency, where she was involved in managing projects including the development of publications and market access materials, as well as coordinating medical education events and developing their associated materials.

In January 2017, Bethan joined the Costello Medical team as an Analyst and now looks forward to working on a variety of projects across the company, whilst being based in the Publications Division.

Ruth graduated with first class honours in Biology from the University of Bath in 2008, and with a PhD in Plant Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 2014. She spent just under three years of post-doctoral work at the Sainsbury Laboratory in Cambridge, studying the genetics and molecular mechanisms of disease resistance to filamentous pathogens in barley and wheat, before joining the Costello Medical Publications Team in January 2017. Ruth has experience writing a variety of scientific documents including review articles, peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and blog-posts, and has produced and given posters and oral presentations at numerous national and international conferences during her time in academia.

Ruth is now looking forward to gaining experience in a commercial working environment and is particularly excited about moving into the field of healthcare and further developing her writing skills.

Jade graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2012 with an upper second class BSc in Biological Sciences. Her final research project studied the cellular entry and toxicity of man-made nanoparticles. After graduating, Jade gained experience in a laboratory setting, working as a microbiologist on the contamination of water sources and raw materials. More recently, she was exposed to the forefront of patient care working for the London Ambulance Service; this enhanced her desire to work for a company supporting the pharmaceutical industry in the production of new medical interventions.

Jade has a strong interest in the development and launch of medicines, and she looks forward to applying her organisational skills to her role as Project Coordinator within the Costello Medical Publications Team.

Georgina graduated from the University of Leicester with an upper second class degree in Biological Sciences in 2015. During her studies she focused on physiology, pharmacology and neurobiology, with her final year research project investigating the potential behavioural effects of an antihistamine, using Zebrafish as a model organism. Since graduating Georgina has worked for an open access life science publishing platform, before joining Costello Medical as a Project Coordinator in October 2016. She is looking forward to working on a variety of projects within both the Publications and Medical Affairs Divisions.
