Richard Short is co-founder of Costello Medical and Director of Finance and Operations. He is responsible for the financial oversight of all group companies and strategic planning both in the UK and internationally. He feels privileged to work alongside so many talented individuals and enjoys seeking new ways to unlock their potential, the creative force behind Costello Medical’s rapidly expanding technical expertise and geographical reach.
After completing a Masters degree in Classics at the University of Oxford, Richard went on to Harvard University for a PhD in Roman history. In between, he gained experience working in asset management at Insight Investment (formerly Clerical Medical), where he served on the alternative investments team and specialised in venture capital, private equity and hedge funds.

As Head of Finance and Operations, Laura uses her management experience and knowledge in business administration to lead the development of Costello Medical’s strategy. She much enjoys the variety of her role overseeing her talented team’s responsibilities in finance, HR, legal and IT, alongside leading large strategic projects contributing to the company’s growth. These have recently included the expansion of the company’s HQ in central Cambridge to nearly quadruple office space in a prestigious grade A building, introduction of the balanced scorecard framework to analyse company performance, and the operational execution of the company’s overseas expansion.
Alongside managing the company’s growth, Laura enjoys thinking about how to maintain Costello Medical’s small company feel, and is passionate about optimising engagement with colleagues throughout the organisation. She particularly relishes the opportunity to oversee new innovative initiatives that will contribute to the development of the company as a whole, and all individuals within it.
Laura completed her distance learning MBA at Warwick Business School in 2018 with distinction and in the top 10% of her cohort. She previously graduated from the University of Cambridge with a first class honours MPhil in Computational Biology, and from the University of York with a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics with distinction.

Michael joined Costello Medical as Company Accountant in July 2016 with the aim of further developing the finance function in order to support the ongoing growth of the business.
Having gained a degree in Law from the University of Cambridge he then spent 12 years working within an accountancy practice, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor, prior to moving into direct roles within businesses. He has experience of working with companies across a wide range of sectors and brings a broad knowledge of accounts and finance to the Costello Medical team.
Michael enjoys using his expertise to support the development of businesses and looks forward to working with the talented team at Costello Medical in further developing and growing the company.

As HR Manager, Sophie supports the global Costello Medical team and has responsibility for delivering a wide range of HR and recruitment processes, including payroll and benefits administration, the performance review process, and other internal activities such as the annual employee survey. Creating continuing learning and development opportunities for all staff is central to Costello Medical’s commitment to delivering high quality work, and Sophie helps to coordinate and plan training activities across the company.
Sophie graduated from the University of Leeds in June 2011 with an upper second class BA in Cultural Studies. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management awarded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and is an Associate Member of this organisation. Before joining Costello Medical, Sophie worked as a recruitment specialist for leading software company Autonomy, prior to which she pursued an internship in the HR department of the World Conservation Monitoring Centre, a global conservation charity working in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme.

Laura joined the Operations Division in September 2013 during an important time of rapid growth. Since then she has seen the team double in size and has played a key role in training, mentoring and managing junior members of the team ensuring the efficient completion and high quality of work carried out by the Operations Division.
As a Senior Events Coordinator, Laura’s time is split between Operations and Medical Affairs. Laura’s Operations responsibilities include overseeing company-wide travel planning, managing Operations budgets, planning for the division along with the rest of the Operations Senior Team, and ensuring that the division’s processes are documented and maintained as the company continues to grow. Laura is also responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the office alongside the Senior Facilities Coordinator, and for ensuring that we fulfil one of our core company values: Fun.
Laura passed her Event Management Diploma in Marketing and Communications, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), in July 2015 with the Event Academy in London (formerly Ashdown Academy). Since then she has played an instrumental role in expanding our Medical Affairs service offerings to include logistics and event support; building an internal team and delivering a number of successful events.
Laura enjoys the variety her role brings and is delighted to be part of a thriving and vibrant organisation that is committed to high quality. She is excited to continue expanding our event management service offering over the coming months, embracing the challenges this will bring.
Senior Facilities Coordinator

Since joining the company in 2013, Paul has taken on the day-to-day management of the office facilities at Costello Medical, working closely with suppliers and contractors to provide a first class service to his colleagues in order to ensure that the office runs smoothly and efficiently.
In March 2016, Paul obtained the Level 3 Certificate in Facilities Management, accredited by the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM).
Aside from his work in facilities, Paul is also responsible for IT support, alongside the company’s external support provider. This is a challenging part of Paul’s role, but one that he enjoys a great deal, despite being disappointed to learn that restarting a laptop really does resolve a large majority of IT issues!
Prior to joining the company, Paul worked for organisations in the office fit-out and refurbishment and pharmaceutical industries. He is delighted to be able to combine his knowledge and experience in both areas at Costello Medical.
Senior Accounts Assistant

Maryanne joined Costello Medical in April 2017 to play a key part in supporting the finance team. She has more than 24 years of experience in corporate finance, working in a variety of small, medium and large enterprises. Having worked internationally, including in the UK for the last 18 years, her finance experience is underpinned by a Law degree, as well as AAT Level 3. She is passionate about delivering a good service and has a strong team ethic.
Maryanne is keen to bring her enthusiasm and knowledge to this exciting phase in the company’s growth.
Senior HR Coordinator

Emma joined Costello Medical in February 2016 and in her role as Senior HR Coordinator she supports the HR and recruitment functions for the Cambridge, London and Singapore offices. Emma holds a Level 5 Diploma in Applied Human Resources accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and enjoys applying this knowledge to her role at Costello Medical.
Emma provides support and guidance on HR issues to colleagues and has oversight of a variety of HR processes, including the performance review and new starter processes. She also manages the recruitment process for several roles across the UK and Singapore.
In addition to her HR and recruitment responsibilities, Emma supports the Head of Finance and Operations with the day-to-day running of the Operations Division. She also has an interest in the company’s pro bono work, having spent two years working for a local charity prior to joining Costello Medical.
Emma is looking forward to supporting the company through an exciting phase of growth through her work in recruitment.
Senior Operations Executive

Jenny joined Costello Medical as an Office and Finance Administrator in June 2014. She has played a key role in supporting the growth of the Singapore office, by providing support in developing the office management and financial administration processes of the company.
Prior to joining Costello Medical, Jenny gained extensive experience in office administration in previous roles, including 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry at Janssen Cilag in Singapore. She is excited to resume work in the pharmaceutical industry, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience required to provide strong support to the team in Singapore.

Aaron joined Costello Medical’s Operations Team as an Accounts Assistant in November 2016, to assist with the day-to-day financial administration of the company, including the purchase ledger, sales ledger, staff expenses and credit card reconciliations for both the UK and Singapore offices.
Aaron graduated from Anglia Ruskin University in June 2016, achieving a first class degree in Accounting and Finance. This is his first full-time accounting role having previously gained accounting experience in a temporary role for Arrow ECS, and part-time for the Stephen Perse Foundation. Aaron is continuing with his studies with the aim to complete his ACCA qualification to become a Chartered Accountant.
Aaron has worked in a number of different industries, starting off at the Cambridge News. He has also worked within gaming, horse racing, insurance, hotel accommodation, IT, and education, and is thoroughly looking forward to working in the medical field.

Megan joined Costello Medical’s Operations Division as a Personal Assistant in September 2017 to assist Jeanette Kusel, Scientific Director, with her day-to-day activities. Alongside these duties, she also provides general administrative support to the wider company.
Before joining Costello Medical, Megan gained a Diploma in Equine Management before deciding to change her career path by starting a junior admin role at a solicitors. Following this, she progressed into administration, account co-ordinator and personal assistant roles in different industries.
Megan looks forward to her role at Costello Medical and is excited to be working within the medical industry.

Klaudia joined Costello Medical in October 2017 as an HR Administrator to support the HR and recruitment functions for the Cambridge and London offices.
Prior to joining Costello Medical, Klaudia gained an upper second class honours degree in International Relations and has worked in various administrative roles for the NHS. Currently Klaudia is pursuing a postgraduate degree in HR Management accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Klaudia is looking forward to using her ongoing education and training to help Costello Medical achieve its goals.

Tanisha joined Costello Medical in March 2018 as a Personal Assistant to support Laura Silk, Head of Finance and Operations, and the wider Operations Division in both Cambridge and London.
Prior to joining Costello Medical, Tanisha worked in the NHS for two and a half years as a Personal Assistant to the Clinical Director and Operations Manager of Pathology, and hopes the knowledge and skills that she has acquired will enable her to help Costello Medical achieve its goals.
She is especially excited about helping to oversee the relocation of our Cambridge office and sees it as a great opportunity to support the company as it continues to grow. Tanisha also hopes in the future that further study towards a degree in business management will enhance her ability to maintain the high-quality standards that Costello Medical takes pride in.
Alongside this work, she will also be providing support to Lucy Eddowes, Head of the Multidisciplinary Division and is looking forward to engaging with the wide range of divisions that make up the Costello Medical team.

Thomas joined Costello Medical’s Operations Division as an Accounts Assistant in May 2018. In this role he assists with the day-to-day financial administration of the company, mainly working within the purchase and sales ledger for the UK offices.
In June 2016, Thomas graduated from Anglia Ruskin University, achieving a first class degree in Accounting and Finance. Thomas plans to continue studying to complete an ACCA qualification to become a Chartered Accountant.
This is Thomas’s first role within a finance department, and he is excited about joining Costello Medical and contributing to the rapid growth the company is currently experiencing.

Alice joined Costello Medical in July 2018 to take on some of the IT responsibilities in the UK offices. Alice began her career as a receptionist in the hospitality industry, which allowed her to develop administrative skills that took her to a role as a receptionist/administrator in a commercial establishment. From there, Alice’s capacity for IT was recognised and employed as the company’s IT co-ordinator. This springboard allowed Alice to explore and train in the world of computer hardware, software, internal and external telecoms, account management and IT networking.
Alice is currently preparing for the CompTIA A+ certification and hopes to develop further skills in support and specialist areas.

George joined Costello Medical in July 2018 as a Facilities Administrator to provide logistical and technical support to the Cambridge office.
Prior to joining Costello Medical George gained a second class honours degree in Geography from Plymouth University and managed fine dining restaurants in the Somerset and Cambridgeshire areas for 5 years. From this experience he has cultivated an eye for detail and an enthusiasm for supporting others.
George is looking forward to growing his IT skills professionally and helping Costello Medical to thrive.
