Since joining Costello Medical, Saoirse has worked on a wide variety of projects across the company’s service offerings, including medical affairs, HTA and publications projects. However, her particular area of expertise is in the design and execution of systematic and targeted literature reviews, both in support of HTA submissions and on more epidemiological subjects. It is her passion for these types of project that led her to establish the Evidence Development Division at Costello Medical in 2015, supported by a talented team of experienced and like-minded individuals.
In her role leading the Evidence Development Division, Saoirse is keen to establish a reputation for delivering high quality projects that are conducted rigorously and efficiently with the client’s strategic objectives in mind. She particularly enjoys providing her clients with strategic advice on best practice in the area of literature reviewing. Next to her work in the Evidence Development Division, Saoirse is actively involved in recruitment, co-managing Costello Medical’s Internship Programme.
Saoirse has a first class honours degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, a Distinction in her Masters from the Royal Veterinary College, London, and a Postgraduate Certificate in “Health Economics for Health Care Professionals” from the University of York.

As a Consultant within the Evidence Development Division at Costello Medical, Sara has been involved with several literature review and strategic evidence searching projects including disease area reviews, competitor landscaping and gap analysis activities. Having also worked on systematic literature reviews, Sara is particularly interested in developing strategies for balancing the thoroughness of systematic reviews with the advantages of more targeted approaches, such as the capacity for swifter delivery of results.
Outside of the Evidence Development Division, Sara also has experience of preparing HTA submissions for NICE, SMC and NCPE, and in developing health economic manuscripts. Sara completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Economics for Health Care Professionals at the University of York in 2014.
Sara graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2012 with an upper second class degree in Biological Natural Sciences, specialising in Physiology, Development and Neuroscience.

Amy joined Costello Medical in 2014, and immediately developed a passion for systematic reviews and evidence synthesis. She was very pleased to be a founding member of the Evidence Development Division and is committed to maintaining and developing Costello Medical’s reputation for producing the highest quality literature reviews in the industry. She particularly enjoys working in collaboration with members of other teams at Costello Medical, such as to deliver literature reviews to inform meta-analyses, economic models or health technology assessments. Her experience and interests also include reviews to inform public health policy, for publication at conferences or in peer-reviewed journals, or for internal strategic use by clients.
Alongside her regular work for clients, Amy is actively involved in Costello Medical’s Public Health and not-for-profit work, and she greatly values this opportunity to use her professional skills to support the improvement of health and healthcare globally. She has presented independent research at ISPOR, HTAi and the Public Health England conference on topics ranging from whole-genome sequencing to combat the development of antibiotic resistance, to the equity issues associated with using QALYs as a measure of health outcomes, to methodological considerations in systematic reviews on “burden of disease”.
Amy has a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, and is currently working towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Jenni graduated from the University of Warwick in 2011 with an upper second class honours degree in Biomedical Science. She then went on to study for a PhD in Biological Sciences with the same institution. Her research focused on the immunogenicity of the glycoprotein of rabies and the lyssaviruses, with the aim of developing a construct capable of pan-lyssavirus neutralisation.
She joined the company in April 2015 and has managed a wide range of different literature reviews; from targeted reviews in ophthalmological conditions to systematic literature reviews in oncology for the purpose of HTA submissions. In 2017 she also completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Economics for Health Care Professionals at the University of York.

Anna graduated from Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany, with a BSc in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She then obtained an MSc in Molecular Biology at the International Max Planck Research School in Göttingen, where her thesis research focused on finding kinases and phosphatases with novel neuronal functions in C. elegans. In her PhD at King’s College London, Anna worked on target validation of tubulin deacetylases in Huntington’s disease. To expand her academic horizons, she undertook postdoctoral training at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where she worked on RNA editing in psychiatric disorders, and then at Northwestern University, where she investigated how nutrition regulates microRNA biogenesis. Prior to joining the Costello Medical team and in search of new challenges, Anna decided to leave academia and move back to the UK to work as an Editorial Intern at the Journal of Cell Science, and as a freelance language editor.
Anna joined Costello Medical in April 2016 and she is excited to apply her knowledge of basic science, as well as academic and publishing experience, to a wide variety of projects and to contribute to the growth and development of the company.

Steph graduated in 2015 from Durham University with a first class Masters degree in Chemistry. She spent her final year working in drug discovery completing a project focused on the design and synthesis of protein lysine methyl transferase inhibitors for the treatment of cancer.
Steph completed a Scientific Internship at Costello Medical at the start of 2016. This role cemented her enthusiasm to work within the healthcare industry and she was delighted to return to the company in September 2016 as an Analyst. During her time at Costello Medical she has worked on a diverse range of projects across different divisions, and she particularly enjoys developing her knowledge across a variety of therapeutic areas. Steph is excited to apply her scientific knowledge to support the delivery of high quality projects and is looking forward to working alongside the talented team at Costello Medical as it continues to grow.

Emma graduated from the University of Warwick in 2013 with an upper second class degree in Biomedical Chemistry. She first joined Costello Medical as a Scientific Intern in the summer of 2013 before completing her doctorate in Pathology at the University of Cambridge. During her PhD, she focused on elucidating epigenetic mechanisms that regulate the transcription of integrated high-risk human papillomaviruses (HPV) genomes in cervical carcinoma. The findings of her research were published in two peer-reviewed scientific journals and delivered as posters and oral presentations at national conferences. Whilst at Cambridge, Emma also enjoyed being involved in outreach projects highlighting the importance of women in STEM.
Motivated to work within the healthcare industry, Emma was delighted to return to Costello Medical in April 2017. She is looking forward to applying her scientific knowledge to a wide range of projects in her role as a Cross-Divisional Analyst based in the Evidence Development Division.

Jessica graduated from the Open University in 2014 with an upper second class degree in Biology and Health. Her degree included studies into cancers, autoimmune diseases and infectious diseases, with her dissertation on bovine tuberculosis.
Since graduating she has worked in a number of laboratory-based posts, including at the Clinical Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory at Addenbrooke’s hospital.
She joined the company in July 2016 and is thrilled to be working for Costello Medical. She is particularly looking forward to using the knowledge gained working in a medical laboratory alongside her analysis and writing skills as part of the Evidence Development team.

Danielle graduated from the University of York in July 2017 with a first class honours degree in Biology (with a year in industry). She spent her industrial placement year at the John Innes Centre, an institute for research in plant science and microbiology, investigating the genetic diversity of aphids and the role of epigenetics in modulating host plasticity. Her chosen final year project at university was on the topic of Public Health Surveys and focussed on investigating the risk factors contributing towards obesity in dogs.
Motivated to work within the healthcare industry, Danielle is thrilled to be working at Costello Medical and looks forward to using her scientific skills to contribute to a wide range of projects in her role as an Analyst based within the Evidence Development Division.

Emma graduated from the University of Sheffield in July 2016 with a first class honours degree in Biomedical Science. For her final year research project, she conducted a literature review investigating how integrative biomedical data models can facilitate and improve drug design in oncology.
Following her undergraduate degree, Emma completed the Master of Public Health with distinction at The School of Health and Related Research at the University of Sheffield. During her studies she developed a strong interest in systematic reviews and the critical appraisal of evidence. For her Masters dissertation she conducted a qualitative evidence synthesis of trainee experiences of mental health gatekeeper training programmes, such as Mental Health First Aid.
Motivated to utilise and further develop her scientific skills, Emma joined Costello Medical in January 2018 as an Analyst and is greatly looking forward to working on different projects in a wide range of disease areas as part of the Evidence Development Division.

Alex graduated from the University of York in 2014 with a first class Masters degree in Chemistry. After graduating, he moved to Cambridge to become a Publishing Editor at the Royal Society of Chemistry. Here, he worked on the general chemistry journal portfolio on the RSC’s flagship publications, including ChemComm, Chemical Science and Chemical Society Reviews, and was involved in many aspects of the editorial production process. He has also written for the RSC’s magazine, Chemistry World, and works as a sub-editor for the educational magazine Chemistry Review in his spare time.
Looking for a career change, Alex joined Costello Medical in April 2017 as a Project Assistant within the Evidence Development Division. He is eager to use the skills learned from his experience in the publishing sector to benefit the wider company and is delighted to be a member of the team.

Since joining Costello Medical in July 2016, Eleanor has worked on a diverse range of projects including clinical and economic systematic reviews, rapid reviews and economic models. She particularly enjoys developing her knowledge across a wide range of disease areas and using her strong research and organisational skills to support the delivery of high-quality projects. Alongside her project work, Eleanor independently manages a wide range of tasks to support the division including organisational, planning, financial, resourcing and compliance-related tasks. She also plays an active role in business development and multiple internal initiatives.
Eleanor is currently studying for an MSc in Evidence-Based Healthcare at the University of Manchester via distance learning. She originally received her undergraduate degree from the University of Sheffield and her Master’s degree from SOAS, University of London. In her postgraduate studies she specialised in childhood malaria in East Africa and how healthcare is delivered by international agencies in developing countries, areas that she maintains an active interest in.

Liz graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2015 with an upper second class honours degree in Natural Sciences. She studied a range of biological sciences with a particular interest in developmental biology, conservation and zoology. Her final year projects included a literature review comparing the greenhouse gas emissions of various forms of energy generation and a meta-analysis investigating the nekton enhancement of salt marsh and seagrass ecosystems.
Since graduating, Liz has spent time working in professional services, where she enjoyed working across projects and developing client relationships. Looking to combine those skills with her scientific background, Liz joined Costello Medical as a Project Assistant in October 2017. She is looking forward to supporting the delivery of high-quality projects within the Evidence Development Division, and developing her knowledge across a wide range of disease areas.

Lynn graduated with a first class MA (Honours) in English Literature and History from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. Driven by an interest in the use of mass media for population-level behaviour change, she joined the University of Oxford’s Department of Social Policy and Intervention as a postgraduate student in 2016. For her master’s thesis, she conducted a systematic review of mass-media based interventions for the prevention of illicit drug and alcohol abuse in adolescents, using Qualitative Comparative Analysis to determine whether specific components of message content or delivery were associated with intervention success. She left Oxford with an MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation in 2017, achieving best examination performance in her core and option modules and a Distinction overall.
Having developed an abiding interest in evidence-based methodology, Lynn joined the Evidence Development Division at Costello Medical as a Project Assistant in January 2018. She is delighted to be a member of the company and looks forward to developing new knowledge and skills in the healthcare sector.
